What Makes a Man a Man in Contemporary Australia
The GEO Group Australia is working with psychologist and University of Sydney senior lecturer Agi O'Hara to create a 'virtual' mentoring project for men titled What Makes a Man a Man in Contemporary Australia. The project comprises a series of interviews and multi-media resources featuring prominent Australian men. It provides access to the wisdom and experience of these respected public figures and is an ideal resource for those who have not been fortunate enough to have male mentors in their lives. The interviews will be used to develop an innovative mentoring program for prisoners, with GEO tracking its effectiveness in reducing re-offending. This interview on Sunrise explores the development of the project and the inspiration behind it.
A Career in Corrections with GEO
Many GEO employees started their working lives in other industries and had not even considered a career in corrections before applying. For many people correctional work remains a mysterious and somewhat daunting proposition, their perception based largely on TV and film depictions. The reality is somewhat different. In this video GEO people talk about how they became involved in corrections and what a typical working day in a correctional centre is like. Corrections is a challenging, but immensely varied and rewarding field of work. GEO offers the opportunity of a lifelong career, delivering a critical public service with real social value.

Finding and holding down a job is recognised as being crucial in a released prisoner's chances of avoiding re-offending, and Fulham Correctional Centre provides a range of training, education and work opportunities to support this. In this ABC photo-documentary interviews with Fulham Correctional Centre's Industries Manager Ian Riley, and Janice Miller Program Manager at Wise Employment sheds light on the work that goes on in the correctional centre to get prisoners into work and the role that the trade and career expo plays in this.
Fulham Correctional Centre Furniture for Gippsland Hospital 
GEO Group Australia operates Fulham Correctional Centre in Victoria, Australia. This TV News broadcast shows the work undertaken by prisoners to build six outdoor dining tables, which were donated to the local Gippsland Hospital. Prisoners built the outdoor furniture as part of their education program.
The partnership between Fulham Correctional Centre and Gippsland Hospital is one of the many partnerships GEO Group Australia has formed with local community groups. Partnerships such as these allow the prisoners to learn new skills, give back to their community, and break the cycle of re-offending.
Junee Correctional Centre Education and Training
Inmates at Junee Correctional Centre have the opportunity to complete their secondary education then continue with tertiary studies. Junee Colour in Your Life
Junee welcomed host Graeme Stevenson and the team of the TV series Colour in Your Life into the correctional centre to film an episode of the show. Inmates had the opportunity to learn water colour art techniques from Graeme, acrylic techniques from artist Manny Petravakis, and colour experimentation from artist Mealie Batchelor. Held in Junee's outstanding cultural centre with inmate artwork as a backdrop the initiative was one of the many innovative ways in which GEO is seeking to address inmates' offending behaviour and support local communities through reparation.
Social Benefit Bonds New South Wales I 
GEO Group Australia have been selected by the NSW Government to run Australia's first Social Benefit Bond. Working with Mission Australia and Social Finance GEO will provide services to reduce recidivism by an agreed amount. These services will be paid for by private investors who will only see a return on their investment if recidivism is lowered by the agreed amount. Payment comes from part of the savings made by Government. Here NSW Treasurer Mike Baird describes the Social Benefit Bond concept

Fulham Correctional Centre Together We Are Strong 
GEO Group Australia. Fulham Correctional Centre. Together We Are Strong (2006) is an animated and live action short film made in collaboration with Vietnamese Australian male prisoners at Fulham Correctional Centre. It warns of the dangers of IV drug use and Hepatitis C upon entering and leaving prison. The story follows a single character from a village in Vietnam through a drug bust in Springvale, incarceration and release.
