Parklea Correctional Centre:
|
Parklea Correctional Centre is located in Parklea, New South Wales, 40 kilometres north-west of Sydney.
Parklea has been managed by GEO on behalf of Corrective Services NSW since 2009. It is one of New South Wales' busiest correctional centres. Parklea's primary role is to safely and securely house over 1000 adult male remand and sentenced prisoners. Remand prisoners are held for the period leading up to, and during, their trial whilst a smaller number of sentenced prisoners are at Parklea to complete offending behaviour programs and to undertake community work placements prior to their release. In a world first, Parklea transferred from public management to GEO management whilst remaining a fully operational correctional centre. The period from contract award to GEO assuming management was just 30 days. "It presents me with an opportunity to report to the House on the hugely successful transition of Parklea in coming under the operation of The GEO Group Australia Pty Ltd" Minister for Corrective Services.
